About Me
I’m Andy Begg, a 3D Generalist and Environment Artist with professional experience across games, VR and interactive media since 2018. I work across the full asset pipeline, from modelling and texturing through to lighting, optimisation and engine integration, with experience creating environments, modular kits, props, vehicles, characters and animation. I primarily use Blender, Substance Painter/Designer, Unity and Unreal Engine, and I’m comfortable taking ownership of projects and delivering production-ready content across different styles and platforms.
I’m open to freelance and full-time remote roles.
Experience
Creatives in the Attic (2025–2026): Created environments, modular kits and textures across four Unity mobile games, plus realistic football player likenesses including modelling, hair grooming and texturing, while helping establish visual and technical standards.
Spray Paint Simulator (North Star Video Games, 2024): Delivered complete environments, props, vehicles and paintable hero assets. Owned Unity integration including lighting, materials, LODs, scene structure and performance optimisation.
Cognitant (2019–2024): Led 3D pipelines across 20+ VR and AR projects, creating optimised environments, stylised and realistic assets, characters, rigs and mocap animations for interactive training experiences.
Freelance 3D Generalist (2018–Present): Delivered 3D assets, environments, tools and renders for indie studios and VR platforms, including marketplace-ready assets for Fab, Sketchfab and CGTrader and immersive content for HTC Vive.
Background
I spent ten years working in QA in the video games industry before moving into 3D full-time, building on my animation degree. I retrained with modern tools and shifted into games, VR and interactive work, focusing on real-time environments, props and full asset pipelines.
I studied 3D Computer Animation at James Watt College (HND) and the University of the West of Scotland (BSc).
Main toolkit: Blender, Substance Painter/Designer, Unity, Unreal, Godot, Photoshop and Marmoset Toolbag.
Also experienced with: Character Creator, iClone, RizomUV, 3ds Max, V-Ray, ZBrush, SpeedTree, Premiere, After Effects and photogrammetry.
Personal
I’m based in the Lake District and spend my free time hiking, taking photos and playing games. Hiking and travel also provide a lot of the real-world reference that influences my environment work, including the Fife landscapes that inspired the render above.
I also explore game design and programming through personal projects, using UE5 Blueprints and Godot’s GDScript to better understand gameplay systems and broaden my real-time development skills.
