About Me
I’m Andy Begg, a 3D Generalist specialising in game-ready environments, props and vehicles. I work in Blender, Substance Painter and Unity/Unreal, and handle full asset pipelines from modelling and texturing through to optimisation and engine integration. Since 2018 I have created assets and levels for games, VR experiences and interactive media, delivering content that meets performance and style targets. I am open to freelance or full-time remote roles.
Experience
Spray Paint Simulator (North Star Video Games, 2024): Built environments, props and vehicles, set up levels in Unity and optimised them for gameplay. The contract was extended based on delivery.
Cognitant (2019–2024): Delivered environments, characters, rigs and animations across more than twenty VR and AR healthcare projects focused on real-time training.
Creatives in the Attic (2025): Created optimised buildings and environment assets for a mobile game and helped define visual quality for the project.
Freelance: Produced VR environments, product renders and interactive content, and sell 3D assets on Fab and CGTrader, with work featured in a Sketchfab seller spotlight.
Background
I spent ten years in QA before moving into 3D full-time, building on my original animation degree. I retrained with modern tools and shifted into games, VR and interactive work, where I have since focused on real-time environments, props and asset pipelines.
I studied 3D Computer Animation at James Watt College (HND) and the University of the West of Scotland (BSc).
Main toolkit: Blender, Substance Painter and Designer, Unity, Unreal, Godot, Photoshop, Marmoset Toolbag.
Also experienced with: Character Creator, iClone, RizomUV, 3ds Max, V-Ray, ZBrush, SpeedTree, Premiere, After Effects and photogrammetry.
Personal
I’m based in the Lake District and spend my free time hiking, taking photos and playing games. Much of my environment work is influenced by real locations and reference gathered from hiking and travel, including the Fife landscapes that inspired the render above.
I also explore game design and programming in my own projects, working with UE5 Blueprints and Godot’s GDScript to understand gameplay systems and improve my real-time workflows.
If you’re interested in collaborating or have a project in mind, feel free to get in touch via my contact form.
