Ford Capri Mk3

The Ford Capri Mk3 often referred to as Europe’s Mustangs. I wanted to stick with the theme of European cars that you would see in the 80’s and 90’s, and I don’t think there is a cooler looking car from the time period.

I modelled it in Blender, textured in Substance Painter in May 2018.

With this model project my aim was to improve on a chunky low-ish poly style that I had attempted before. with the two vehicles I used in the Fall House image.

I have exaggerated and simplified some areas of the vehicle. You may noticed that I increased the bump in the bonnet and exaggerated the wheel arches.

This was the first vehicle that I attempted to add a semi realistic undercarriage. I think it adds a lot to the vehicle, especially when you know that it’s going to be viewed in 3D on Sketchfab.

The model came under 58,000 triangles, although the wheels are about 11,000 each. If I were to bake the wheels or use the texture for the treads this number would reduce significantly.

I was really happy the way this turned out. In only a few months I had improve every aspect of creating a vehicle compared to my earlier models, from my UV unwrapping, to modelling, texturing, and my general workflow.

I have compiled some of my reference material bellow.
